The Rock Park of Lama D’Antico,St.John’s and St, Lawrence’s offers a great variety of themes which testify the rich complexity of the archeological site.
The ravine (cleft), on whose sides the caves forming the rock village were dug,is crossed by natural paths winding among the maquis and the land cultivated mostly with olive trees.
The caves are full of traces of the everyday life and activities carried out by their inhabitants,of their different crafts and jobs and of the clever ways they provided themselves with water.
On the cave walls we can read the century long history of the rock itself through many fossils and man-created signs, which, together with archeological findings, testify that the area has been inhabited for milleniums.
The need for the sacred made those men and women create places of prayer and worship which were refined and naif at the same time….churches carved into the rock of great architectural elegance and frescoed with the bright colours of the Mediterranean landscape and vegetation surrounding them.
You will discover and enjoy all this walking through the park whose charm changes with the times of the day and the seasons.
